In retrospect, where things maybe started going wrong was when TT came along with a "more accurate" deco - I feel like this introduced the idea of subsequent releases somehow rendering the toy you'd purchased 'redundant' and instigated G1 accuracy as some kind of end goal.
What I'm enjoying now, though, is an increasing number of people going back to those original Classics releases and appreciating them in their own right.
Semi-related; I love all of these Wheeljacks even if the WFC toy is great.
