Any ZZ Gundam HG kit should be fine, I personally have never seen any problems with any kits involving mobile suits used by protagonists, they put in some extra effort I would think since they are the most popular. Also Gundam kits from universal century series up to char's counter attack tend to be good for new people since they don't have too much crazy shit particularly lots of the later wing designs can be a littler tricky to do for someone new among other things, a zaku 2 for instance is the perfect thing to start with do to it's rather simple design, just about any HG from char's counter attack and before are good to start with.
