The Mata Nui Online Game also seemed to support this theory. The movie would have ended with Makuta and Takua fusing and waking Mata Nui (they even mention this in the movie itself) but since Metru Nui line was greenlit they changed the ending suddenly
Hence all the weird out-of-place dialogue. Seriously, would the moustache-twirling Teridax we've come to know start waxing philosophical about unleashing Rahkshi? Dude sounded genuinely sad about it.
