>>9576781>There will never be another line of Star Trek toys as expansive as Playmates’ original line. Making figures that can fit in with that line is common sense.Playmates Trek was a wild ride. It's the definitive Star Trek line.
>Plenty of companies have had the license since that original Playmates, and none of them have come close to making it viableI agree with this sentiment. No line has ever really invested in a way to make it worthwhile as a collector to buy into their toys, because you knew they'd either never produce the entire main cast of particular shows, or never do many of the secondary characters. I considered buying into McFarlane's line, but I never did because he never produced anymore. They were decently articulated, came with a fair assortment of accessories, and had competent enough sculpts with interesting packaging. I was just waiting for it to be a full line and not just a one off thing(two off actually, they did Picard and Kirk). They even went an extra mile and gave Picard his flute from the best known episode, "The Inner Light."
I went from being dismissive to being hyped. This was precisely what I wanted out of a Playmates revival. I'm hoping they scale with the vintage playsets, and can interact with my vintage figures. If Playmates really wants to build more hype they'll reveal some Borgs an a new Gorn figure.
