You can also try comic book stores that carry gunpla, that's a different build group I go to
But I actually found out about the hobby store build event by going to a state anime con and they had a hobby room dedicated to gunpla, warhammer, and waifu statues and they had some tables for various gunpla groups and I just asked someone at a table what events they go to
(but desu the reason I asked is because there was a girl at a table who was actually really cute and I was surprised she was into gunpla so I decided to talk to her)
