>How realistic would sub-assembly painting be?you can get away with some simple masking like painting the deck or hull, then putting some tape over the edge to protect it form overspray, and then doing the other part. sub-assemblies, well, it depends on what the paint job is on your ship. I'm doing Rodney right now in her pre-war configuration, and so she's going to look very simple: the deck is wood, and literally everything else is painted over in a British light naval gray (pic related). if you have intricate camos then it may be more complicated.
