The Spaniards were originally white (and before they got invaded themselves) when they invaded the Americas so there are a lot of shades depending on how mixed they are.
I imagine both sides would get annoyed if they are under represented. Historically the stars in telenovelas are white. In the USA they tend to associate all Hispanics with Mexicans and I believe México has the highest percentage of people that are mainly indigenous Indian and most Mexicans are brown so it would not be unrealistic to see a brown Hispanic princess. Also if they make a Hispanic princess non brown they are going to get accused of white washing and it is not often they get a chance to make a brown princess. But it is annoying when people pretend that white hispanics don’t exist and start bitching about them being white like they did with Honey Lemon. Elena does look a lot like Jasmine but she does not have a strong nose like Jasmine does.
