I'd still build a Hexagear, but this would appease those of humble means.
How about the following:
Build *anything* and weather it *convincingly*.
Can be anything from rusted-through to slightly scratched, from mud-caked to snow-covered to blood-stained as long as it looks convincing and appropriate for the subject and the scenario.
Since this is not a prize build (right GG?) there should be no asshurt about "convincing" being subjective, but if you have a lineup of 5-10 builds it should be possible to see which is relatively better/worse by simple comparison alone.
To further broaden the appeal, make painting optional (although painted kits *will* look more convincing) and even allow kits that are already snapped together but not painted yet.
