>>10065133Lucas sold Star Wars for $4 billion because Iger and Kennedy were convinced that they could easily make it all back if they just saturated the market for a few years. Allegedly, when interest, partners' cuts and other investments are taken into the equation, Disney has not made any profit off of Star Wars yet, and that's not even accounting for all the lost profits prom their business partners who will be less hesitant to do business with them in the future.
That stupid Radio Flyer landspeeder not-Power Wheels toy was supposed to retail for $500, and when Toys R Us went out of business they literally had pallets of them running the length of the store marked down to $100. I have a video of it buried somewhere on my phone when I went there for the last time, I couldn't believe it, there were at least a hundred if of those things at this single location. I am convinced that that thing helped put Toys R Us out of business because Disney got so many people blowing hundreds of millions on Star Wars mania speculation. I know there was other fuckery going on behind the scenes with carnivore investors with Toys R Us but they had so much Star Wars crap that they couldn't sell, I'm positive that was a large contributing factor to their downfall.
