In Europe there was no gap between G1 and G2. They blended together. While Transformers ended in 1990 in the Us in 1991 and 1992 we had a bunch more releases like the Predators (Skyquake and his buddies), the Lightformers/Trakkons (Ironfist among others), the Turbomasters (a bunch of cars, Rotorstorm and Thunderclash) and guys like Clench. These were probably already worked on in 1990 when Hasbro US decided to can the line and ended up in the European market where sales were still strong. Some of them also ended up being re-released in G2 packaging when 1993 rolled around and we had a full relaunch.
But as a kid, even though i was out of buying action figures at the time I was aware that Transformers never actually went away unlike stuff like He-Man, Star Wars and GI Joe.
