>>768302880’s cartoons had a lot of rules. Especially ones trying to sell a product. Reagan basically axed the regulations preventing non-Mr. Roger’s children’s television from being an unending commercial, so long as it was basically animated Comics Code Authority golden age.
As in, “Marv Wolfman isn’t allowed to put his name on the cover of comics because the word ‘Wolfman’ is a bit too close to the occult for the Christian south” type of golden age.
Japan didn’t give too much of a fuck. Television itself was a liberal thing, if you had your kids watching it then you probably didn’t give much of a shit about a gay character or poop jokes or boobs or brutal violence.
That said, it doesn’t stray too far from G1 because the charm was amplified in translation as they got liberal with the dialogue. Kind of like how Samurai Pizza Cats is beloved in the west, but some shit show nobody remembers much there, like the obscure Hannah Barbara shows such as Goober And The Ghost Chasers where they ripped their own intellectual properties off.
I went on a bit of a rant there, but you get what I mean.
