You could go ahead and write the best material in the world and have the best ideas for the revival of the series, but it's just a pass time hobby if it's all locked away in the bedside cabinet never to see the light of day.
You'd need someone fully committed, regardless of what other people thought, regardless of the death threats or reception. Basically you'd need someone who isn't a "yes" man, and who isn't afraid to cut off the rotten grafted appendage that represents half of the existing fanbase, and move the story and aesthetics towards a clear and very singular focus. Basically the second coming.
