Going off model with renovations seems to be a new Bandai trend as of the last few years.
The Alex is a competent model with some smart engineering behind it. Whether or not you like the aesthetics will be what makes or breaks the kit for you.
Of course if you just want the frame and can mod well, then there's nothing really stopping you.
