I tend to look at it on a chronological release basis and creator's intent. Like, was this sequel kept in mind when the first movie was made? It's ridiculous to judge everything purely by way of canon especially when you try to plug in the holes for Alien with Prometheus when it originally had a very different idea about the lore (pic-related).
