Age of Extinction was actually supposed to be Slash's very first appearance, and she was intended to appear onscreen with the other Dinobots during the Hong Kong battle (as a whole pack of at least five Slashes, no less!). And yes, while the promotional materials incorrectly identified this incarnation as male, Slash was always intended to be female even in the film - they recycled her official bio for her POTP release instead, after the character was cut from the movie.
