>>6110142I think it's because most of the comics take place in space nowadays so there's more futuristic vehicle modes. Personally I'm a fan of wheel shoulders, hood chests and tread legs. You know the kind of aesthetic found in older TF fiction.
But really it comes down to the artists I think moreso than a matter of preference. In my perfect world Geoff Senior would still be drawing transformers in that weird, almost watercolour style.
Some of the art for the old DW series were fuckin dope though.
