The whole gimmick of these dolls is that they’re supposed to represent the runways and red carpets of the year they debut. So, Ariel’s would be 1989, when fashion was heavily influenced by the 1920’s and also pushing gender norms with clothing. Basic, nude colors, or bright vibrant colors, with bold clothing lines. Hardly any prints at all, and if there were they didn’t look like the carpet at the Lazer Fun Dome.
Her dress looks like it’s sponsored and made by the SoCal brand you could pick up at KMart in 1989, NOT a runway or red carpet look. It’s a tacky costume.
