The high-heat tempering process causes it to break into small cuboid shapes that are very difficult to hurt yourself with. It's nothing like the sharp shards formed by standard glass. And no sane person would make something like a table from standard glass, so there never could have been a risk of "cutting your limbs and head off" for ANY glass tabletop.
