>>9141917>>9141941More detail = wasting a ridiculous amount of superfluous pieces(which makes sets more expensive/smaller) in order to force curved shapes and hide studs instead of embracing Lego's natural aesthetic for what it is, it massively widens the gap between what consumers(particularly children) can build themselves and the official products which discourages modifying/expanding sets and tearing them apart, not to mention greatly increasing the demand for specialized pieces when creating something in order to adhere to the new standards of detail/realism.
Lego used to be a symbolic abstraction that works alongside your imagination, not unlike what Minecraft does(which kids enjoy just fine and its a tremendous avenue to promote their creativity), at this point a lot of sets might as well just be sculptures to be looked at on shelf.
The creator sets are one of the few modern products carrying over some of the original design philosophy and spirit of the brand. It's quite telling that even the fucking Death Star which is far from retro gets posted a lot of people proceed to bash how the exposed studs on the main walls are unacceptably ugly.
Honestly, the fact that I have to make a post explaining this makes me sad and disappointed not gonna lie.
