I used a 240 grit sanding stick and an 800 grit sanding sponge to take the shoulders down, test-fitting regularly until the arms finally double-clicked into the shoulder mounting. I made some minimal use of an art knife to slice off some uneven areas around the hole in the shoulder cap along the way.
