I don't really get the hubbub about losing the EU stuff. The x-wing books were my jam when I was a kid, and there were some really cool ideas to come out of it in general. The thing to remember though, was that there was way more complete garbage that you had to take along with the good stuff. Damned near thirty years of some of the shittiest writers in sci-fi hacking out whatever they wanted will do that. I tried to get back into the books a couple years before TFA, and the state of the cannon was a clusterfuck to put it mildly. Normally getting into something with that much back material is great, but that shit was just impenetrable.
They're redoing the good parts of it, there's some pretty solid new stuff running, and as everyone's current grail shows, they're not above putting out EU toys. Also, keep in mind that we're not even two years out of the reset. They pretty much have nowhere else to go but to dip back into EU characters once they've exhausted han's final movie costume.
