It also didn't help that the colors and paint schemes were rather bland and generic. Look at the lady knight builder; all her parts are color coordinated to match with her theme.
The elves on the other hand look like they're just kitbashes. I would have rather seen them painted in the same style as the silverhorn sentry, the elf ranger, or even a more detailed elf legion builder.
