Long answer:
I watched my father working himself nearly to death because he always hoped one day he would come out at the top, while he had no hobbies and never time for himself.
He now is very sick and has lots of time he doesn't know how to fill, and he never got rich either because it's not like hard working is all you need to achieve that.
I don't want to repeat that, even if it means I have less financial income.
I don't need much for myself, don't aspire to do/own the usual stuff (hate kids, got no interest in owning a huge house or fast car, most luxury products I don't care for etc.).
I just want a stable life and being able to buy something nice for myself once in a while. Later maybe some travelling.
My dolls make me happy.
It's most of the time very relaxing, I can be creative, I am not hurting anybody, I can do it all on my own. I found friends through it, expanded other hobbies I had before through it (like photography). Dolls don't need constant attention, I don't have to feel guilty when they are trapped in their cabinets for months.
It's like gaming, just less passive...and more expensive.
However, lots of my hobby expenses I was able to cover through working in the hobby (i.e. offering commissions); that helped a lot to keep the actual costs low and keep my regular job money for life expenses.
Honestly, if you can afford it and it makes you happy, go for it.
You won't live forever and there are honestly worse things you can spend your money on.
Unless you are risking your state of living (like not being able to cover rent/food) or other living beings (be it your children or a pet), have debt/emergencies you should cover first, have a shared household and could not cover your part anymore; that's never cool.
