>>9870555>they were the lowball bidder by FAR which had always been Filmations trademark. They offered Mattel to make the show cheaply and quickly and since there pretty much was no existing procedure for how these things worked Mattel just let them go ahead.Filmation's cheapness was something special. It wasn't just soullessly pinching the pennies. Lou Scheimer employed US artists where Sunbow and the Thundercats company found it more economical to outsource (and got better-looking results for it), and the shoestring budget that led to him and his daughter doubling as voice actors meant they got to spend more time together as co-workers. The morals at the end seem to have been of a piece with who he was as a person (and apparent Hal "YOU CAN'T HURT TREES!" Sutherland was part of it too, kek).
>Though it should be said that Mattel did make a series bible (written by Michael halperin) to make the licensing consistent. If I recall right, the Halperin Bible is dated December 82, some 6 months after Prince Adam and his family were created at DC Comics. That was a rougher, kind of Conan-flavored version where Adam was a womanizer and the good guys killed their enemies and Teela complained about the inefficiency of keeping score.
