That way, the character doesn't stick out like a sore thumb, and as a bonus you'll get to experiment with new lighting techniques. Screen brightness and your camera's white balance settings are also very important things to be mindful of, since it can easily pick up on the light coming from your monitor and make the background look washed out or too obviously a flat surface.
