General threads are shit, mostly because fandoms are mostly shit you need to discuss shit even when there's nothing to discuss, which leads to offtopic and fapbait to bump threads to the front pages.
And yes, general threads hide news, disallowing new people to become interested in the toylines and creates circlejerking mentalities.
