I understand where you're coming from but also I doubt Jap pilots would definitely care about their footing when they're being scrambled to intercept US bomber/fighter formations on a moments notice. I think the issue of why people heavily chip their Jap aircraft is that the belief of Jap paint being absolute shit gives them free reign to heavily chip their zeroes as if they were Franks and Oscars. This is partially correct, however the problem is this issue really only affected IJA aircraft throughout the war and some IJN aircraft late war, but the zero oddly enough wasn't one unless it was in a boneyard.
