The places I tried to do the exhaust effect and where the bullet casings are ejected I also couldn't nail with the wash method so I just gave up on it before enshittyfying the model even more. In the end I noticed I glued the the Fuel tank struts at different angles, something I couldn't tell without actually fuel tanks, so I just placed them on the plane for the photos now without gluing the gas tanks in place. I'll take them off later when no one is looking...
