The digitigrade legs are legit, unlike some others in recent memory, and the joints have pretty nice range too. You can have it up on its haunches, shift its weight from shoulder to shoulder, you can even make it stand straight up like a big lanky 12" tall humanoid. If you really think this thing is only capable of "one good dog pose," I think you're just not using your imagination.
Not sure why the soft plastic fur was a mistake either, since you gave no reasoning for that. It seems to work great to me.
