Hotwheels from the 2000's on had their finger on the current popular culture much better.
I remember seeing hotwheels in the toy store and every single one of them was completely insane looking to me at the time (in a good way)
Deep down i'll always like the lesney production superfast era the most though. That slightly oldfashioned aspect to them is always endearing to me.
