>As the war on Cybertron drew on, Autobots grew weary about the prospect of losing their heroic leader. The faction's greatest scientific minds decided to come up with a back up plan, because in their minds it was only a matter of time, before Optimus Prime's noble spirit would push him to sacrifice himself, most likely for some young soldier. During various check-ups and under pretense of tech development, they have gathered all the data necessary to create a perfect copy of Prime's body and a simplified version of his personality component. The only missing part was a spark that would keep the cloned unit alive and not just a lifeless husk likely to deteriorate before time would come to use it. Using an Autobot's spark was ruled out as soon, as the scientific team got their hands on a nameless Seeker, one of the very few prisoners of war sacrificed on the altar of Autobot cause. All that was left was to preserve the clone using "black sleep", a very deep stasis that used only a tiny amount of energy to keep the body alive, at the cost of changing its coloration after extended use. The facility kept runing, but over time some of its founders have fallen in battle and the remaning ones came to realise that such a project would not find Prime's approval and chose to remotely shut it down, hoping to one day redeem themselves for their sins. However, due to error in the system's programming, the clone has woken up and, barely alive, managed to escape the lab located in an area recently taken over by Decepticons, falling unconscious mere moments before being found by a patrolling unit. The survivor was taken care of at the Decepticon base, mostly because his appearance piqued Megatron's interest.
