Then there was the blonde/brunette hair switching that wasn't all that great. How the gimmick worked was that you'd turn a skullcap ontop of the head to the desired top color and flop that color over to hide the other color. You couldn't style her hair into a bun or pigtails because that would impede the hair changing gimmick.
So yeah, that's why Tiffany Taylor didn't go over well. I'd also hazard that the 70's energy crisis didn't help. lots of toy makers were scaling down their toys due to the rising cost of plastics.
