The techniques are different though. Some lines like Revoltech are basically statueshit with joints added afterward and keep on cutting until they get the desired range. Some companies use the buck system, where the joints are very much standardized and added over/into the sculpt.
Again, this costs them literally nothing extra, because all these companies are doing it as part of the design process.

So the kneecap is the joint piece vs the kneecap is in front of the joint piece. Range of motion can be identical or not, depending on how much of the sculpt is preserved.
