Factories are set up to produce toys in a certain way. Companies like Hasbro have spoken on why the engineering on GI Joes and MU figures were so differently, like GI Joes having screws to put them together and MU figures sonically welded, and that's because each factory had different tools.
So can McFarlane afford to buy the factories a different set of tools to produce just 5 figures? I WISH, but it's unlikely.
Another thing to consider is the fact that McFarlane would be using different plastics. So even if McFarlane is able to buy the factory 20 or 30 new tools, the toys themselves were engineered to be produced with very specific types of plastics. DCC had the budget to use Lexan plastic, which is one of the most durable plastics there are. If McFarlane uses cheaper plastics, there'd be a problem like we saw with DCC's first wave of B:TAS figures.
