I did get some G1 toys, and they either had limited movement or were just bricks, and as a kid I wanted the toys that looked like the ones on the cartoons. Beast Wars really failed for the most part on that until Transmetals, and how awesome some of those were just made all the others much worse in retrospect.
At least with the toys now, they've actually been in something. When this fucker came out, he was just some shelf-warmer nobody wanted and was strange as hell making him really unappealing.
Now at least every figure coming out has been in at least one comic or cartoon, they almost always have full movement, and when they transform they actually look like what they're supposed to be.
