One thing people may not know is that while the 07 movie is what brought a lot of G1 kids back to the fandom, RiD01 and Armada also made some big splashes and got nostalgic 20-somethings aware of TFs again, seeing carformers and autobot symbols on things again.
RiD was a big deal even if it's somewhat forgotten or overlooked now.
This was one of the earliest attempts at marketing nostalia in the 2000's, some Christmas lights, Sure it uses the Car Robots designs but it does so because at the time RiD felt like "classic" transformers(nevermind the bad guys being predacons initially) was back
