For some reason i totally forgot this is Hasbro we're talking about and they' dont use full paint apps on their toys. Even back then, it was pretty rare, but their movie lines did enjoy higher budgets.

>>10159245I'm not sure if types of paint are more expensive. Yeah, some colors like red and black are a few hundredths of a penny more expensive per figure, but they're still used and metallics are pretty common, thus why i don't think they're bank breaking.
That said, CERTAIN types of paints require special priming or plastic. For example, McFarlane and DCC used to use black plastic with paint apps over that, to make their figures appear grimier. So this extra step would cost more.
So that redhood? It likely used a glossy plastic to get that metallic sheen. Those Drones don't have that sheen though and neither did this amazing as fuck Silver Surfer. It's too rough for that, despite their iridescent look
