For some folks, they seemed to have been the point where the series absolutely jumped the shark into trying way too hard, but on the other hand, for late 00s kiddos, these were basically the beginning of a new generation of Bionicles that, even if still technically contained within G1, did have a much edgier and varied aesthetic with an entirely different appeal to them. Personally speaking, my very first experience with Bonkle were the McDonalds and Nesquik figurines of the Pirakas and Inikas, they were what drove me to purchase the Barraki that were currently out in stores and contingently my nostalgic attachment towards this second half of G1 is much greater than the first.
It's funny because, in the middle of this division between the older, more mechanic anthropomorphic Asimov-esque designs fusioned with ancient spirituality and the newer, more organic designs fusioned with technology and sci-fi elements, G2 managed the brilliant feat of not appealing to either and just having robots that just look like dogshit sprinkled with random gold parts.
