When I was a kid, He-Man had been out of the public zeitgeist for years, and my information on it came from vague stories and snippets of episodes on the early internet.
I used to think that He-Man and She-Ra were married. It made sense. They were the main characters. Then, I found out they were siblings and I thought, "That makes sense, they'd be together to have stronger babies."
And I kept thinking that.
Even when I was a teenager, when I hadn't consciously thought of He-Man or She-Ra for
years and I happened to notice something related to them that thought would come back and I'd think, "Yeah, that sounds about right. It was probably hidden commentary about what ancient royalty got up to." In a single fleeting moment when I realized how weird it that was for a children's cartoon, I thought to myself, "It was a different time."
Then I started hearing about those weird new fantasy books about thrones or whatever and that some of the main characters were incest blondes. I thought it was a He-Man joke.
I don't remember when I realized none of that was true, but what I thought after was that Teela had a thing for him and was jealous that He-Man was shagging the bird lady in his castle.
I don't even know where that came from.
I don't even know why I'm sharing this.
