I've been saying that since the first trailer dropped. Similar everything aside, the whole point of Emmet's character arc is that Sweet Mayhem abducted everyone who was a tough, capable fighter/adventurer, and announced Emmet was a feeble, pointless person.
Emmet's clearly going to do some sort of time travel shenanigans where he becomes the sort of action hero he needed to be, goes back in time as Rex, and trains Emmet to become the action hero who can save his friends in the first place.
