I got a few of the ultimates when they were on clearance and I did get Axl's mech because I like his non-standard torso design. I hope that gets reused more in the future. Kind of an interesting stopgap between minifig to bigfig.
Mostly I've used the shields as store signs, something I was amused to see other people here have done. I've used the musical symbol for a display I built with the Weird Al minifig I put together (also thanks to these threads) and the poison during Halloween when I made a bobbing for apples display. Even the football shield power, which was kind of odd when I got it. Finally a reason to take the football CMF out of storage. I can see from this chart that the hammer and anvil being useful as a Castle village blacksmith, caduceus symbol for a clinic, and...damn, I want that one with the single Lego brick now. Might build my own klocki store, now.
