Sad I didnt get to have a more intimate experience, have never gone to Japan prior to the tourism scourge.
Whats your least favorite thing about all the tourism? I personally didnt see any of the disgusting tiktok clout videos or even any apeoidic darks but the chinks are fucking annoying swarming everywhere like locusts and hogging shit. I think weeb shopping was still alright but anyone buying trading cards like Pokemon and shit drove me nuts. They always took forever and there were always lines for it. Any decently scored restaurant also had massive lines so I tried to go during quiet times.
I chilled (it was literally freezing cold) in Shimo Suwa for a few days and that was the only time it felt non touristy. Still far more urban development than Sydney despite being "rural". Really wonderful experience and it was interesting to see them trying to attract local Japanese tourism.
