My "first" set was a random building set. I tried looking it up but 1987 and 1988 had a ton of those released. Primarily red with some white parts, and one of those yellow blocks with the two lack eyes and one red nose. I was seven and eventually made a Mechagodzilla from it that I still have.
This was probably my first "proper" Lego set. I really liked that monkey and treasure chest full of gold.
