This is my favorite childhood toy after Lego. For the uninitiated, these were a spin-off of Transformers (ironically, I never gave a damn about Transformers) These were called Beastformers in Japan but were released in the US as Battle Beasts in the late 80s. The featured a rock-paper-scissors gameplay mechanic thanks to the heat sensitive "rub" stickers on their chest that you could activate by holding your thumb over to warm up, revealing a symbol of fire, water, or wood.
The idea was that water beat fire (duh), fire beat wood (also duh), but wood beat water, which some people have trouble with but it's because wood floats on and/or absorbs water, similar to how Pokemon later used grass types to be super effective against water types. These figures were built to stand on their own and they had some pretty great designs and color schemes. With only two points of articulation, they'd each come with their own unique weapon that they could hold. Some of them even had a specialized "weapon arm" that replaced one of their hands with hooks, claws, drills, and spiked balls.
