Anyway, 3D character models would be the only reasonable way to go. 2D worked for Templar's simplistic and vaguely anime-inspired stuff (and even they used a lot of vectorized 3D assets), but for a hypothetical full-fledged cartoon, nah. I think JtO presented a passable combination of 2D and 3D effects, even though I didn't care for its art style overall.
