It's the section the ring is attached to that's weak.
Pic is the side view of the part.
The red part is the weak point of the joint and bending it like the orange arrow will break it off the armor part if not reinforced.
So what you want to do is add some support underneath it like the green triangle so that it can take more torsion.
Or, you can just sand down the pin, but it's still better to reinforce it because the feet touches the part when you put it on the leg and that might break it as well.
