My parents thought Barbie was a bad influence, and wouldn't even let me have them or watch the Barbie and the Rockers cartoon when it aired on tv. I opened my big mouth to tell them Barbie was on he tv, and they shut it off. They would start saving up for dolls like tyco Ariel or Mattel Belle, but after weeks of saving up for them they would end up blowing the money on something else like cloths or perfume, which is why I despise shopping for new cloths and perfume as an adult. Back than there was no Disney Princess line or ebay so if you didn't buy a princess doll when her movie was still in theaters you didn't get to have her. My best friend had them tho. The closest thing I got to having an actual doll while growing up was this $1.99 Burger King Esmeralda puppet. She wasn't really a doll, but it's the closest I ever got to one. I sewed shiny sequences onto her dress, and I still have her on display. Which doll did I really want specifically? I guess I never gave it much thought since I knew no matter how good the Barbie commercial looked on tv I wouldn't be getting it. I mostly collect thrift store doll now, and try to fix them up and restore them. I'll get about one new Barbie doll from when I was kid off of ebay per year, since every single one of them is like $100 plus on ebay. I haven't gotten one this year tho. I really don't like ordering things online from privet sellers, which is why I wish there were more dolls that looked like the ones I missed out on in actual stores today, but there aren't any.
