I'll go to bat for him. As the resident goldenbookfag, my opinion of him is mostly based on his portrayal in those books. And he's shown to be a useful, competent member of the good guys. He even gets to go on a mission with He-Man in Grayskull when Skeletor has both swords to gain access.
It's a motu meme that the good guys have air superiority and that starts with Stratos and the Wind Raider.
I think that most of the hate on here is just a /toy/ meme mixed with resentment of how mini comics version killed Motu at retail.
If I'm a fag for goldenbooks, you could probably describe me as "mini comics curious" and the real tragedy of that Stratos (and Trap Jaw) is that Mattel didn't go the extra mile and do the finishing touches to make them accurate to the comics. I doubt he would have sold any better but at least more people would defend him for being what he's supposed to me.
A Mattel should have just ripped off classics and did a MC exclusive pack of Stratos, Trap Jaw and Prince Adam.
