>what other use for mechs are there? How do you mean? If you mean purposes in life there's construction, transport, EMS services, industrial purposes of all kinds, public relations (even as giants, it's no stretch of the imagination), or other pubic services.
With a concept as inherently ridiculous as mecha as a genre there's no point to even mentioning the word "practical", no matter what you're going to lose out if you put any thought into it besides "it's cool".
"Western" design in the sense you mentioned I had noted isn't really what makes something western. Western designs are distinguished by visible traits, not conceptual ones, and they usually have nothing to do with militarism or "practicality". I enjoy practical or "real" robots as much as the next guy, but most of the time I find when people try to make practical robots, Americans do it well IRL and then it varies wildly. British IMO have it fine on both fronts, Japs too but they also have the most exampes by far. There's also poor designs on all fronts.
Don't get me wrong, I think yours is alright. The question is, could you put a minifig in it? Also I derailed this topic way too much with robot nonsense and I want to put a stop to it.
