Yeah, it's hated because it's popular but that's exactly the point. Sets keep selling no matter how expensive they are and how poor the quality is which establishes a precedent for other themes too. Minifigure derangement syndrome started with Star Wars too.
They're fine products but are co-opted by the worst people imaginable.
